LAWRENCE — Lawrence Police (LPD) conducted a Swearing-In ceremony for eight new Lawrence Police Officers on July 30 at the Lawrence Government Center Public Assembly Room. It was the largest group of new officers in Lawrence Police Department history.
The new officers bring a variety of experience and education to the Department, including four graduates from the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy (ILEA), joining LPD from other area law enforcement agencies. There are also college graduates, U.S. Armed Forces veterans, and Correctional Officers in this group. Each new officer started the hiring process in January, from hundreds of applicants. The new officers will begin training immediately, with four from this group scheduled to attend ILEA in October.
