IRVINGTON — With the addition of complex Ukrainian folk designs, the Easter egg becomes a true object of beauty. The art form is called Pysanka, from the verb pysaty, “to write,” as the designs are not painted on, but written with beeswax. In an exhibit currently at the Bona Thompson Memorial Center, 5350 University Ave., will display over 70 of these beauties created by the talented artist, Suzanne Walker. These are true works of art on a small, curved, three dimensional canvas. Suzanne has been creating painted eggs since she was 12 and her passion and intensity can been seen in her intricate designs.
If the vivid colors and intricate designs encourage you to make your own heirloom egg, Suzanne will offer two classes on Sat., March 10 and repeat on Sun., March 11 from 1 – 4 at the Bona Thompson. Cost is $15 and includes all supplies. Registrants must be over the age of 14. Class is limited to 16, so don’t wait to register.
Classes are filling up fast; visit https://squareup.com/store/IrvingtonHistoricalSociety/ to register online.
