• Lawrence Police Department will host the Fall Crime Stoppers Community Shredding and Electronics Recycling Day, Sat., Oct. 21, from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m, at the Lawrence Government Center, 9001 E 59th St. Bring documents to shred, electronic items for safe recycling, and unneeded prescription medications, for safe disposal. No needles, paint, or household chemicals please.
• The annual Cottage Home Neighborhood Fall Block Party will be held Oct. 14 from 5-11 p.m. at Highland and Dorman between E. St. Clair and North St. There will be food trucks, adult beverages, music, community vendors, and much more going on. Everyone is encouraged to wear costumes and enjoy the horse drawn hay rides and kid’s activities. The event is free, with a $5 donation suggested to help pay for entertainment and future neighborhood projects.
• INDOT plans to shift traffic lanes on U.S. Highway 36/State Road 67/Pendleton Pike to begin the second phase of a culvert replacement project between Oaklandon and Carroll roads. The speed limit is reduced to 35 miles per hour through the work zone. Drivers are urged to be alert, avoid distractions, and comply with work zone speed limits for motorists’ and workers’ safety.
• Indy Bard Fest features a modern interpretation of Macbeth, Taming of the Shrew, and Cymbeline beginning Oct. 20 at IndyFringe Theatre. The shows run until Oct. 29. The Complete Works of Shakespeare (abridged) will be featured Oct. 19-22. Tickets are available online at indyfringe.org/bard-fest.
• Grab your kilt and head over to the 8th Annual Indianapolis Scottish Highland Games and Festival Oct. 14 from 9 a.m.-9 p.m. at German Park, 8600 S. Meridian. There are lots of activities for children, including a knighting ceremony. Great music, food, a whiskey tasting for grown-ups, dancing, and lots more will be going on. • Germanfest will be happening over at the Athenaeum, 401 E. Michigan St.. Oct. 14 from noon-8 p.m. Tickets are $8 in advance and $12 at the door; kids 2-12 are $3 in advance or $5 at the door. The ever-popular (and super-cute) Weiner dog races, competitive Durstig Games, a Bavarian Stone Lifting contest, and a yodeling contest, are just some of the featured events. Expect lots of good food, beer, and lederhosen.
