INDIANAPOLIS – Mayor Joe Hogsett announced that Mass Ave will be the City’s Neighborhood of the Month for August. The Neighborhood of the Month initiative highlights an Indianapolis community each month, working to engage local organizations and promote neighborhood-based projects by various City departments.
Known for being “45 degrees from ordinary,” Mass Ave is a favorite destination for its shopping, dining, and arts scene. The neighborhood boasts an electric atmosphere, with roots that trace back to 1821 and Alexander Ralston’s early plans for the city’s construction. The neighborhood has the honor of being one of six cultural districts in Indianapolis, and has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places since 1981.
The month of August marks a busy time for Mass Ave as it played host to the 10th annual Mass Ave Criterium, and will feature the 13th annual IndyFringe Festival.
City-County Council Vice President Zach Adamson, who represents most of the Mass Ave corridor, said, “The Mass Ave corridor offers the best of an urban core community. From spectacular performance and media art venues, to vibrant dinner and drinks hotspots, to the wide array of housing options, residents and visitors alike are regulars here. Mass Ave represents the miraculous transformational power of focused investment and mixed use development and I’m proud to represent this exciting and culturally diverse corridor.”
Residents and visitors are encouraged to use the hashtag #IndyNoM when posting on social media about Mass Ave during the month of August. To nominate your neighborhood for Neighborhood of the Month visit: http://indy.gov/NoM.
