INDIANAPOLIS — The Indianapolis Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) was recently awarded $59 million in federal funding for projects that will go to bid in State Fiscal Year 2022 (July 1, 2021 to June 30, 2022).
Responsible for planning and programming federal transportation funds in the eight-county Central Indiana region, the Indianapolis MPO awarded funding to projects ranging from a multi-use path in Noblesville to school-zone safety enhancements in Avon, and from new roundabouts in Greenwood to bridge rehabilitations in Indianapolis.
The Indianapolis MPO encompasses 1,520 square miles and includes eight counties and 31 cities and towns. Some of the projects that will be funded include:
• Mann Road & Southport Road Intersection Improvement
• Safe Routes to Transit South — Improvements for bicycles and pedestrians within a half mile of Red Line stops between Lawrence Ave. and 25th St.
• Pedestrian Crash Focus Area 5 — East 38th Street from Fall Creek Parkway to Sherman Drive
• Pedestrian Crash Focus Area 9 — North Illinois and Meridian St. from 14th Street to 34th St.
• Bikeshare Expansion (up to 30 new stations and 250 new bikes)
• Knozone Awareness Program
• Emerson Avenue Widening (from Stop 11 Road to Southport Crossing)
• IndyGo Bus Replacement
• Amy Beverland School Sidewalk Connection
• CR 300 S and Gem Road Roundabout in New Palestine
• Pennsy Trail from CR 400 W to CR 500 W in Hancock County
