Applause!: Nov. 4-10

• Daylight Saving Time ends Nov. 6 at 2 a.m. when we set our clocks back one hour (spring forward, fall back). This is also a good day to change the batteries in your smoke detectors.
• Congratulations again to organizers, sponsors, and volunteers for the 70th Annual Historic Irvington Halloween Festival! An estimated 56,000 came through the crowded streets of Irvington on Oct. 29 at the Street Fair, plus hundreds more attended events throughout the neighborhood during the week. Proceeds from the festival go to support local projects, including the Friends of Irving Circle and the iconic fountain, and Gaia Works, which helps to feed the hungry.
• Speaking of Gaia Works and the hungry, a big THANK YOU to the many folks who dropped off food and personal care items during our Lincolns Project in October to help stuff community food boxes and restock the Gaia Works pantry. Hundreds of items were donated, and we have been distributing them to the food box in Otterbein, and will drop off more at the Magic Candle.
• On Fri., Nov. 4 from 7-9 p.m., Keep Indianapolis Beautiful will host @LitterofHighlandPark, a popular Instagram feed brought to life by Dan Remington in a series of artistic images, pithy commentary & community engagement to encourage residents of Indianapolis to keep their neighborhoods litter free. Litter2 is also a community event to select 2017’s Great Indy Cleanup focus areas. Attendees will have the chance to hear from three Indy neighborhoods as they make their pitch to be selected as a 2017 Great Indy Cleanup host community for April or October. At the end of the night a panel will select, along with input from the audience, locations for large-scale cleanup sites, and one neighborhood to receive a grant toward continuing community engagement.
• On Fri., Nov. 4 from 6-9 p.m., the city galleries will host First Friday events at a variety of sites. There’s something for everyone at First Friday! Check out the east side’s Circle City Industrial Complex, 1125 E. Brookside Ave. for photographers, jewelry designers, landscape artists, and avant garde works in the sprawling building. The Stutz Art Gallery at 212 W. 10th St. will feature the 67th Street Printmakers Show, featuring examples of many different printmaking processes. The iMOCA at City Way Gallery inside the Alexander Hotel, 216 South St. will feature the touring exhibit “Unloaded,” exploring the theme of guns and gun violence. Visit their Facebook page for a full schedule of sites and events.

• The Ayres clock restoration campaign exceeded goals, and repairs are set to start Nov. 7. There will be a grand unveiling later in November; just in time for the annual arrival of the cherub and the holiday shopping season, if all goes to plan.
