INDIANAPOLIS — Mayor Joe Hogsett announced recently that Little Flower will be the City’s ‘Neighborhood of the Month’ for September 2016. The Neighborhood of the Month initiative features a new area of the Indianapolis community each month and includes events and service projects by various City departments.
Little Flower is a small, close knit community, located on the city’s Eastside. Many of the homes in Little Flower were constructed in the 1920s and have a signature bungalow style. The neighborhood gets its name from Little Flower Catholic Church, located on East 13th Street.
With an active neighborhood association, Little Flower boasts several signature events including: the Little Flower Porch Crawl, an initiative that encourages neighborhood exploration; an annual Speed Neighboring event where people to get to know their neighbors; a Chili Cook-off with surrounding neighborhoods competing for the “Golden Ladle”; and multiple neighborhood clean-up events each year. In addition, the neighborhood has an active gardening community with a Little Flower’s Little Garden Club and a summer veggie swap.
City-County Councillor Blake Johnson, whose district includes Little Flower, will help to highlight neighborhood initiatives throughout the month as well.
