INDIANAPOLIS — As the expansion and renovation continues at the East Washington Branch of The Indianapolis Public Library, limited library services will resume on Thursday, July 7 in a temporary facility approximately one block east of the branch at 2902 E. Washington Street. The East Washington Branch has been closed since early April during major construction and until reduced services at an alternate location could be arranged.
The branch’s regular hours will apply: Monday through Wednesday from 10 a.m. – 8 p.m., Thursday and Friday from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m., and Saturday from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. During these times patrons can pick up materials placed on hold, return items, access eight PCs, and check out feature films and children’s books for the Summer Reading Program.
Constructed in 1910 as one of two remaining Carnegie libraries in Indianapolis and recently named to the National Register of Historic Places, the East Washington Branch is undergoing a $2.4 million renovation that includes a 2,220-square-foot northward expansion and interior updates to improve access and enhance services while maintaining the historical integrity of the branch. Construction is scheduled for completion in November of this year.
