Applause!: June 10-16

• West Nile Virus has been detected in mosquitoes on the east side. One of their favorite breeding grounds is standing water in old tires. The Marion County Health Dept. will hold a Tire Recycle Day June 11 from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. at the Mosquito Control facility, 4001 E. 21st St. (Sherman and 21st). Please bring your old tires to keep the mosquito population down!
• Did you know that the new outdoor dog ordinance requires you to bring your dog inside during cold weather also applies to the heat of summer? If the temperature outside is 90 degrees or above, a heat advisory has been issued, or a tornado warning has been declared, Indianapolis residents MUST bring their outdoor dogs inside a temperature controlled environment. On any day when the temperatures are above 80 degrees, the dog’s shelter must be shaded by trees or a tarp.
• There will be an art installation at Paramount School of Excellence June 10 from 3:30-4:30 p.m. at the school, located at 3020 Nowland Ave. in the Brookside neighborhood. Three projects will be unveiled, including a sculpture collaboration between artist Doug Calisch and 8th grade students at the school. • Congratulations to Indianapolis Public Schools 2017 Teacher of the Year, Micah Nelson! Ms. Nelson teaches 6th-8th grade social studies at Center for Inquiry School 2. She joined the district in 2004. The announcement was made June 3.
• The Cumberland Police Department and Town staff are accepting fans for residents who may need them during the long, hot summer ahead. Donations can be dropped off at the Cumberland Town Hall Police Dept., 11501 E. Washington St. Mon.-Fri. from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. or the Buck Creek Fire Dept. Station #71, 5809 W. Airport Blvd. near Mr. Comfort Rd.
• EclecticPond will present A Midsummer Night’s Dream at IndyFringe, 719 E. St. Clair from June 17-26 at various times. This is a contemporary adaptation of Shakespeare’s classic romance, reset at a beach party. Looks like fun! • Cottage Home neighborhood welcomes new and old neighbors to Reggae in the Park on June 18 from 5-10 p.m. at 714 N. Highland. There will be food trucks, drinks for purchase, and great music playing all evening.
• Otterbein Neighborhood will meet June 16 from 7:00-8:30 p.m. at Otterbein UMC, 5009 E. 21st St. Guest speakers include Mayor’s Neighborhood Advocate Ashley Miller, an update on the Feast of Lanterns 2016, and plans to revitalize Pogue’s Run Art and Nature Park. Neighbors are encouraged to attend and see what’s happening!
• Entertainment on the Plaza in Greenfield will feature Swing Shift Indy on June 10 at 7 p.m. at the Greenfield City Plaza. Bring your own blankets and chairs for this free concert.
