• You may recall that the Irvington Development Organization and the Irvington Historical Society partnered to buy the building at the northeast corner of Ritter and Washington. There will be a fundraiser to help restore the structure, which is the oldest commercial building in Irvington, on April 6 from 6-9 p.m. at the Lodge, 5515 E. Washington St. Music by Marc and Friends, featuring guest musicians Paul Diebold, Chad Hetrick, and Arron Galbreath. Admission is $10 in advance online at http://bit.ly/WtLDEq or $12 at the door. All proceeds will benefit the restoration.
• Indy’s Rock ‘n’ Roll history talk with Preston Lauterbach at UIndy was postponed due to bad weather, and is rescheduled for March 27 at 4:30 p.m. at the Schwitzer Student Center, 1400 E. Hanna. Admission is free.
• Want to get involved in discussions on public transportation, biking, car sharing and more? Drop by the Near Eastside Transportation Confabulation on March 23 from 9 a.m.-11 a.m. at the Redevelopment Group, 1017 E. Michigan St. Pack a lunch and enjoy the company of your fellow eastsiders from 11 a.m.-noon.
• The Irvington neighborhood clean-up on April 6th needs “block captains” — the morning crews will get together at 10 a.m. and then begin clean-ups on streets and curbs, then an afternoon crew could take over for trash removal. Dawn Briggs, who is organizing the crews, is asking for a big turn-out to make light work of the project. E-mail her at dbgardengirl@sbcglobal.net or call 374-8171. Thanks Dawn for picking up the baton on this project.
• Congratulations go out to Irvingtonian Brian Boyd, who just received the Certified Remodeler certification from the Central Indiana Remodelers Guild, the local chapter of the National Association of the Remodeling Industry (NARI). There are only eight CR professionals in the Indianapolis/Central Indiana area, so this is quite an accomplishment.
• The Irvington Historical Society and the Indiana Historical Society have teamed up to offer the Irvington Journey, which is part of the Indiana Historical Society Destination Indiana exhibit. It is an interactive look at Irvington from 1870-1950. There will be a preview night April 4 at the Indiana Historical Society from 5:30-7:30 p.m. The first Irvington Historical Society members get into the exhibit for free; the reception is free. The Society’s headquarters is at 450 W. Ohio St. Congratulations to Paul Diebold and Steve Barnett for finding all those images in the archives, as well as your research.
