INDIANAPOLIS — The East 10th Street Civic Association (E10SCA) has been a catalyst in helping to transform the Near Eastside. Over those years, they have been instrumental in bringing new businesses to East 10th St., as well as promoting green initiatives and business recruitment.
In 2015, the organization and NEAR (Near East Area Renewal) engaged in conversations regarding a potential merger that would allow both organizations to come together to more closely align both housing and economic development efforts in the neighborhood. Despite both organization’s best efforts, it was recently determined that a full merger would not be pursued. Additionally in 2015, Tammi Hughes, E10SCA founding executive director, transitioned full-time into the private sector.
This year, as is the case for many community development corporations locally, regionally, and nationally, the E10SCA has seen a shift in the community development funding environment. After in-depth conversations with funders, community stakeholders, and project partners, the East 10th Street Civic Association Board of Directors have determined that the organization will begin a process to distribute assets, programs and resources to local non-profit and for-profit partners whose missions align closely with those of the E10SCA. This careful and thoughtful distribution will be the East 10th Street Civic Association’s final project before the organization dissolves later in 2016.
The E10SCA offices, located within the Clifford Corners Apartments building, will remain open with reduced hours as the Board and staff work through this process while continuing to serve the neighborhood.
