• It is now a violation of city ordinance (revised Code of the Consolidated City and County, Indianapolis/Marion County, IN Section 531-401) to leave a dog outside when the temperature is below 20°. Even with shelter, pets must be brought inside to a temperature controlled environment. To report cases of neglect call 327-4622.
• Thank you to Snow Force and INDOT for attempting to keep our roadways clear during the recent snows. It is a thankless task.
• With the return of cold weather, law enforcement is once again reminding people to never leave their running cars unattended. There have been several cars stolen while the owners went inside “just for a minute” while they left the car running to let it warm up.
• Curbside recycling, residential and heavy trash will operate on a slide schedule next week in observance of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day on Jan. 18. There will be NO residential trash, heavy trash or curbside recycling service on Jan. 18. All routes will operate on a slide schedule. Services for the week will be delayed by one day through Jan. 23. All services will return to normal schedules Jan. 25.
Post offices, the BMV, federal and state offices, and the libraries will also be closed for MLK Jr. Day.
• The beautiful and historic Garfield Park Conservatory will be briefly closed for two days, Jan. 14 & 15, due to a renovation project. The Sunken Garden outdoors will remain accessible from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. The public is invited to an open house with free admission on Jan. 18 from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. to view the updates and improvements.
• Monkey Business: A Preschool Art Workshop will be held Jan. 20 at 1:30 p.m. at the Beech Grove Public Library, 1102 Main St. Preschoolers are invited to grab their yellow hats and bring their favorite curious little monkeys to a mixed media workshop led by The Art Lab and inspired by the book, “Curious George Builds a House.” Space is limited. Registration is required; call 788-4203 to register.
• Common Threads Quilt Guild will feature Lana Russell as their program speaker on “Cotton Theory” with a quilt trunk show at their meeting on Jan. 20 at 9:30 a.m. at the Mount Comfort United Methodist Church in Mount Comfort. Guests registration is $5. Upcoming speakers at Common Threads include Jennifer Fulton on “Idiot’s Guides: Quilting” on Feb. 17 and the Harvest of Quilts Show will be Aug. 26-27.
• Make reservations now for the upcoming Valentine’s Puppet Cabaret, presented by Peewinkle’s Puppet Studio. Shows will be from Feb. 12-15 at various times, and ticket prices include a gourmet cookie and drink. The studio is located at 25 E.
