INDIANAPOLIS — DC BLOX, based in Atlanta, recently announced design improvements that will remove one building from the project, and the elimination of 25 backup generators in order to increase green space and shrink their footprint.
DC BLOX now proposes a one-story approximately 70,000 square foot data center, and a two-story approximately 250,000 square foot data center. They will also reduce the number of parking spaces.
The site is zoned I3, or Medium Industrial. DC BLOX’s data centers are typically classified and approved in Light Industrial zoned locations. Earlier, the company committed to pay 100% of utility costs, adhere to strict noise limits, use union labor and make big investments in the nearby Warren Township community assets.
The center is planned for the former Ford plant off South Kitley Avenue and Fintail Drive, which also borders the Pennsy Trail. DC BLOX stated that the estimated capital investment is $1.8-2 billion.
However, the City-County Council Metropolitan and Economic Development Committee passed an amendment 10-3 proposing a moratorium on data center approvals until Dec. 31, 2027 on Monday, July 13. The moratorium would give officials more time to develop a new special zoning class for data centers and gather more information. The proposal will move to the full council for a vote on Monday, Aug. 10 at 7 p.m. in the Public Assembly Room of the City-County Council Building, 200 E. Washington St.
