• Kevin Murray will be guest speaker at the Tuesday, Jan. 27 meeting of the Perry Township / Southport Historical Society. Kevin is an attorney and author of a fascinating book with a very long title: The 1st Fighting Irish: The 35th Indiana Volunteer Infantry: Hoosier Hibernians in the War for the Union. The meeting is at 7:00 p.m. at the Perry Township Education Center, 6548 Orinoco Ave. Enter through the center doors at the northwest corner of the building.
• More than 100 community members showed up to a Jan. 15 meeting of the Metropolitan Development Commission regarding a proposed data center in Martindale Brightwood. The examiner rescheduled the hearing to Feb. 12, after the City-County Council takes up the issue of regulating data centers in the county.
• Each winter, Indy Neighborhood Cats passes out more than 3,000 shelters you can put out to keep outdoor cats warm. You can pick one up from 3-6 p.m. on Thursdays or from noon to 3 p.m. on Sundays at FIDO, 1505 N. Sherman Dr. If you can, please donate to this incredible organization that is helping Indianapolis animals.
• Mary Dicken has been named the Broad Ripple Village Association Executive Director. She will lead the organization’s efforts to build a stronger community and support local businesses.
• Very sad to hear that Ripley, the Stout Shoes mascot, has passed away at the age of 28 after a brief illness. Ripley had been a fixture in the store on Mass Ave., where many people just came in to see him and chat with him. He will be deeply missed by the staff at Stout.
• Franciscan Health is hosting a flu and immunization clinic on Tuesday, Jan. 27 on the south side of Indianapolis at Chin Community of Indiana from 1 to 4 p.m. Chin Community of Indiana is located at 2524 East Stop 11 Rd. The immunization clinic is open to anyone. Attendees need to bring an insurance card (private or Medicaid) and photo ID. Appointments are not necessary and walk-ins are welcome. • Teens in grades 6-12 are welcome to come to the East Washington Library from 3:00-4:30 p.m. for art projects, games, studying, reading, and snacks. The library is located at 2822 E. Washington St.
• On Sunday, Jan. 25 from 1:30-2:30 p.m., the Propylaeum will be open for a tour. Located at 1410 N. Delaware, it was originally a private residence and served as a hub for arts, culture, and women’s leadership. Cost is $15 for the general public. Purchase tickets online at www.indianalandmarks.org and search for the Propylaeum.
