Historic Battle Reenactment at Fort Harrison Jan. 3

LAWRENCE — The Museum of 20th Century Warfare (M20CW) at Fort Harrison State Park will host a living history battle demonstration with reenactors representing Allied and Axis forces on Saturday, Jan. 3. It will take place in the park from 9 a.m. to approximately 3 p.m. The day will consist of 3 to 4 short skirmishes beginning at 10 a.m. in the wooded area near the Camp Glenn area. Spectators should be prepared for short walks on a hilly terrain to the viewing areas. The afternoon skirmishes will be in the flatter Camp Glenn area. Use the parking lot for the museum and riding stables. Guides will direct spectators to the appropriate viewing area depending on your arrival time.
This is in conjunction with the museum’s temporary display about the Battle of the Bulge of WWII from through January 24.   The display features over 40 “day boards” with maps showing the progression of the front lines, descriptions of battle conditions, and units involved along with any highlights that took place that day.  There are artifacts, models and an 18 foot long diorama to view as well. There no lecture presentations in person this year, however videos of past lectures will be available for viewing. You can chose from a list of 15 videos available to see. Most are 25-30 minutes long. The display is located in building 701 in the Historic Camp Glenn area of Fort Harrison State Park and is available for viewing Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from noon to 4 p.m.  Signs will be in place thru the park to direct visitors to the building.
There is no charge for the display, or demonstration however normal state park gate fees apply. Fort Harrison State Park is located at 6000 N. Post Rd. Admission to the park is $7 per car.
