Damien Center Honors World AIDS Day with Events

INDIANAPOLIS — The Damien Center will commemorate World AIDS Day with a series of events that will honor individuals lost to HIV/AIDS, uplift long-term survivors, and engage the community in education, remembrance, and action. There was a World AIDS Day Remembrance Ceremony on Monday, Dec. 1, and there will be a special evening of programs at Cafe Oztara on Friday, Dec. 5.
The Remembrance Ceremony took place at the Damien Centers Mosaic Building at 1420 E. Washington St. The event featured remarks from staff and long-term HIV survivors who shared stories about the early days of the epidemic, the progress achieved over the decades, and how the community can honor those lost through continued advocacy.
The World AIDS Day First Friday will be held Dec. 5 at Cafe Oztara, 1446 E. Washington St. The event will include the Earl Connor Society Fireside Chat from 5:30 – 6:30 p.m., the Florence L. Elias Compassion Awards Ceremony at 6:30 p.m., and a First Friday Reception and Community Gather, 7 – 9 p.m.
