New Commander of Downtown District Announced

INDIANAPOLIS — Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) Chief Christopher Bailey recently announced the appointment of Captain Shane Foley as the Commander of Downtown District.
Commander Shane Foley is an 18-year veteran of IMPD. Commander Foley is currently assigned to IMPD’s North District as the day shift captain. Prior to his promotion to captain, he served as Chief Bailey’s Executive Officer and three years as the Public Affairs Office supervisor. As a sergeant, he served as a Recruit Training supervisor and on East District middle shift.  As a patrol officer, he worked on East District middle shift, served on the East District crime reduction team, and served as one of the first strategic intelligence officers for IMPD.
Commander Foley is a senior instructor, a Fair and Impartial Policing instructor, a Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design practitioner, served on the Event Response Group, and has proudly serve as a mentor to recruit officers for years.  Commander Foley has also been awarded the Medal of Merit, East District Officer of the Year, and a Unit Citation.
Commander Foley officiates college soccer, serves as an advisor for college students, enjoys spending time in the downtown area and traveling, and lives in Indianapolis with his partner, Jon.
