A Gathering Of Artists Finds New Venue

IRVINGTON — The long-time tradition of the holiday Gathering of Artists has been resurrected at Downey Ave. Christian Church, 111 S. Downey Ave. in Irvington on Nov. 22 from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Dozens of artists will have a huge selection of handcrafted and vintage items for sale. Admission is free.
Charlotte Ottinger will have a booth selling vintage jewelry as well as her non-fiction work Madge: The Life and Times of Madge Oberholtzer, the Young Irvington Woman Who Brought Down D.C. Stephenson and the Ku Klux Klan, plus Dee Banta’s paintings, Lynda Preston’s hand knit and crocheted items, Annie Roof with decorative cookies, Adele Schluge’s paintings, and Alan Reinhardt’s beer steins and garden trolls. Garden art, unique baskets, handmade clothing, jams, are just a few things available for sale. There will certainly be something for everyone at the gathering.
Cheryl Lorance will be there with original artworks and print, plus cards. Lorance is an accomplished sculptor, painter, goldsmith, and printmaker. Her limestone benches carved with illustrations of James Whitcomb Riley’s famous poems were recently installed in Greenfield along the Riley Arts Trail. She also sculpted a series of 12 benches for the Ft. Ben Cultural Campus in Lawrence, as well taking on other major sculpture projects. She carved the benches for the Greenfield project in her Irvington studio. Her lengthy resume includes prestigious residencies at the T.C. Steele State Historic Site in Nashville, Stutz Artist Residency in Indianapolis, numerous juried exhibitions all over the country, as well as bronze restoration projects at Crown Hill Cemetery, the Indiana State Capitol building, and the Children’s Museum.
With a Bachelor’s and Masters degrees from Ball State, Lorance has also established herself as an artist in bronze, charcoal and watercolor, paint, and gold. She has won dozens of awards throughout the country, including first place in sculpture at the Indiana State Fair.
