• The Thrift Store, 5005 E. 21st Street (one block west of Emerson Ave., on 21st Street) is open on Saturdays 10 a.m.-2 p.m.. The mission store will have fall and winter items Nov. 1 and will be back for sale at fifty cents (hoodies $1 and coats $3). Cash only — no bills larger than $20.
• Yoga with Indy In Motion is a free class for all ages, levels and interests. No preregistration is required. Bring a mat. Yoga will be held at Indianapolis World Sports Park, 1313 S. Post Rd. Monday and Wednesday at 1:30-2:30. This free class features a total body health and fitness program through the Marion County Health Department and the National Institute for Fitness and Sport.
• Ralph Gaebler, automotive historian, will talk about the little-known history of luxury automaker LaFayette Motors that was once headquartered in Indianpolis on Thursday, Nov. 6 at 6 p.m. at Indiana Landmarks Center, 1201 Central Ave. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 for the general public or free for Landmark members. • The Indiana State Fairgrounds Foundation is hosting the 29th Annual Safe Night Halloween on Friday, Oct, 31 from 5-7 p.m. at the Fairgrounds, 1212 E. 38th St. Admission and parking are free. Kids can take part in a trunk-or-treat event, with decorated vehicles, costumes, candy, and community spirit.
• Pyramid of Enlightenment will host a Psychic Fair on Saturday, Nov. 8 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sunday, Nov. 9 from 11 a.m.-6 p.m. at the shop at 8117 E. Washington St. Admission is $5, and reading cost $20 (cash discount) or $30 (card) for 15 minute readings. There will be drawings, vendors, and free short seminars.
• The 79th Historic Irvington Halloween Festival’s Street Fair was amazing! The final count hasn’t been announced, but it was estimated that 70,000ish people attended this year’s festivities. Everyone seemed to enjoy themselves, and the vendors were busy! A big shout-out to the hundreds of volunteers who make the festival so special.
• McQualla Carriages will be providing carriage services in Beech Grove, starting on Friday, Oct. 31 at 2 p.m. Rides will start in front of City Hall on Main St. 30 minute rides are $10 per person, and 60 minutes are $20 per person. Hours of operation will be Thursday, Friday from 2-10 p.m., Saturday from 2-11 p.m., and Sunday noon-5 p.m.
• The Gaia Works Pantry needs our help. This wonderful organization provides food for those in need, especially seniors on fixed budgets who are really feeling the pinch at the grocery store. Please consider donating at the Magick Candle, located at 6125 E. Washington St. Parking is available in the back. If you don’t know what to buy, consider donating a Kroger or Aldi gift card so Jan and her team can purchase what is needed. Thank you!
• Small gestures can make a person’s day. Open a door for someone struggling, pay a compliment to the cashier, help a neighbor with the trash cans. Be kind!
