INDIANAPOLIS — Midwest Food Bank Indiana has announced the acquisition of 8.45 acres at 6400 South Belmont Avenue to build a new facility that will serve more than 240,000 Hoosiers facing food insecurity each year.
“This parcel of land is ideal for advancing our mission to rescue and redistribute food to over 250 partner agencies statewide,” said Executive Director Diara Nicholson. “It sits adjacent to the property originally donated to us in 2008 for just one dollar, making this an especially meaningful milestone for our team.”
The new facility will be a cornerstone of Midwest Food Bank Indiana’s “Under One Roof” capital campaign, a pivotal initiative that went public in September 2025. Major donors, including The Jean and Bernas Downing Charitable Trust and Lilly Endowment Inc., have already contributed 7.5 million dollars to the campaign. The George and Patricia Kopetsky Family Trust made significant contributions that enabled the acquisition of this real estate. Midwest Food Bank now seeks the final 2.0 million dollars to bring the project to life. Lilly Endowment Inc. is graciously matching the next $500,000 raised, doubling the impact of the gift.
About 24.5 million meals are provided annually through Midwest Food Bank Indiana. More than 250 nonprofits depend on Midwest Food Bank at no cost, including after-school programs, senior centers, community centers, domestic violence shelters, homelessness services, and food pantries
