• This Sunday, Sept. 14, the Irvington Farmer’s Market will be held at Ellenberger Park, 5301 E. St. Clair from noon- 3 p.m. The Irvington Garden Club sponsors this once a month event from June-October, and it features over 80 vendors, music, food, and a chance to catch up with neighbors. Looks like we’ll have great weather for the market this month!
• Heartland Film Festival will have two showings of film trailers from this year’s International Film Festival. Watch a selection of film trailers from the 2025 Heartland International Film Festival on Tuesday, Sept, 23 (Heartland Film HQ at the Strett Center, 8950 Otis Ave.) or on Wednesday, Sept. 24 (Alamo Drafthouse Cinema at The Square at 3898 Lafayette Rd.). Shows start at 7:30 p.m. both days. #HIFF34 guidebooks and yard signs will be available. The film lineup will be announced on Thursday, Sept, 18, and the festival runs from Oct. 9 to 19 at various theaters around the Indianapolis area. • Congratulations to Andrea Light, the creator of the public art piece “Madge’s Vision” in Irvington, for her nomination for a Monumental Award from the Indy Chamber. The work was commissioned by Irvington Development Organization and funded by the Indy Arts Council to commemorate Madge’s bravery and deathbed statement that brought down the KKK in Indiana.
• The City-County Council met on Monday, Sept. 8 to vote on the fate of the proposed Google Data Center in Franklin Twp. The rezoning petition was passed on to the Council. However, an outcry from citizens about the potential problems it will bring to the community and further research on data centers put the future of the data center in doubt. A bipartisan vote to call down the rezoning petition pushed a final vote to the City-Council meeting on Monday, Sept. 22 at 7 p.m. at the City-County Building, 200 E. Washington St.
• IndyEast Promise Zone will be holding a “Vision for the Prison” two part event on Saturday, Oct. 4. First, they are scheduling a clean-up for Willard Park with volunteers from Keep Indianapolis Beautiful in the morning, and then from 12-3 p.m., there will be a Block Party at the former Women’s Prison site at 401 N. Randolph St. to envision its future. There will be local community booths, music, arts and crafts, and lots of activities. There will also be food vendors. Admission is free, but tickets are required online at Eventbrite.com (search for Beyond the Fence Vision for the Prison).
• The Magpie Studio and Gallery hosts a weekly open door painting session from 10 a.m.-1 p.m., offering a space for creativity and break from routine. Bring your own materials. Admission is free and all are welcome. The Magpie is located at 206 S. Audubon in Irvington.
