INDIANAPOLIS — Indianapolis Public Schools (IPS) and the Big Ten (B1G) Conference have launched a new partnership recently at James Russell Lowell School 51, a Montessori School in Martindale-Brightwood..
During a kickoff event at School 51, Big Ten, IPS, students, and staff witnessed the unveiling of a new outdoor basketball and pickleball court. They also learned about classroom collaborations with conference schools and how James Russell Lowell students will engage with college student-athletes.
Each classroom will be matched with student-athletes from each Big Ten university. Students will learn about their partner school and display its colors throughout the year. Students will receive t-shirts featuring their assigned school’s colors — like black and gold for classrooms paired with Purdue University.
Students will also have opportunities to attend Big Ten championship events, including football, women’s basketball, and rowing competitions.
The Big Ten is spotlighting Indianapolis as a championship hub, with several major postseason events next year, including the football conference championship, indoor track and field championships, women’s basketball tournament, and rowing finals.
