New Curfew Hours Proposed

INDIANAPOLIS — After the holiday weekend mass shooting left two teenagers dead and five others hurt in downtown Indianapolis, the City-County Council introduced a proposal that would extend curfew hours for minors in Marion County. The Public Safety and Criminal Justice Committee of the City County Council will present more details about the enforcement of the proposal on July 16.
If passed, the new curfew would require youth ages 15-17 to be off the streets by 11 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. Sunday through Thursday, curfew would begin at 9 p.m. For children 14 and under, curfew would be 9 p.m. every night.
Currently, curfews for minors are 1-5 a.m. for ages 15-17 on weekends and 11 p.m.-5 a.m. on Sundays-Thursday. Children under 15 cannot be in public after 11 p.m. or before 5 a.m. any day of the week.
