• The east side recently lost another champion. Tim Harmon, owner of Tim & Company, and the Teeny Statue of Liberty Museum on E. 10th St., has passed away. He was a long time architectural salvage expert, community organizer, artist, writer, and supporter of the revitalization of the east side. He will be missed by many in the city.
• On Saturday, July 5, Taste of Indy will be held at White River State Park, 801 W. Washington St. from 11 a.m.-9 p.m. The family friendly event features local food vendors, wine and beer, and live music. Tickets are $20 and are available on Eventbrite.com (search Taste of Indy July 5).
• The Neighborhood Food Collective will host a Summer Food Giveaway on Saturday, July 12 from 2-3 p.m. or while supplies last at the Irvington Plaza parking lot, 6200 E. Washington St. ICAN Assistance and Food Pantry and Gaia Works are sponsoring this giveaway. No proof of income or residency is needed. • On July 12 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Grace Church at 5605 S. Franklin Rd. will provide car washes for the community. The washes are free, but donations of non-perishable food items or cash are encouraged, as all food and money collected will be given to local food pantry God’s Bounty.
• According to Marion County ordinances, individuals can set off fireworks on July 4 from 10 a.m.-midnight, and July 5-9 from 5 p.m. until two hours after sunset. Please, if you set off fireworks, avoid aiming them at homes and cars, and for the love of Mike, clean up after yourselves!
• If you have a cat or dog that hates fireworks, please make sure they are chipped and wearing a collar with your name, address and phone number in case they bolt out the door or yard. Also take a picture of them in case they run away so you can post on Indy Lost Pet. The Web site is www.indylostpetalert.com.
• Community Health Network’s long-time President and CEO Bryan Mills has announced his retirement after 40 years with the organization. A search is underway for his successor.
• Central Library, 40 E. St. Clair will host Guelaguetza Mosaicos Festival on Saturday, July 12 from noon-4 p.m. This is a traditional Oaxaca, Mexico celebration. Guelaguetza means “offering” in Zapotec, and is a festival of bringing communities together and sharing cultural heritage. There will be performances, vendors, and information booths.
• Also at Central Library, there is a Renew Sustainable Fashion exhibit from July 2-30, with a reception on Sunday, July 13 from 3-4 p.m. High school student Andralyn Yao will show over 20 pieces of sustainable fashion design from upcycled materials.
