IRT Announces 2025-26 Season

INDIANAPOLIS — The Indiana Repertory Theatre has announced its 2025–2026 Season. Scheduled from September 16, 2025 to May 10, 2026, the Theatre’s 53rd Season will bring the regional premiere of a new hit American musical, two Pulitzer Prize-winning plays, and more in the six-show lineup.
The season will open in the fall with The 39 Steps, a clever and suspenseful comedy adapted by Patrick Barlow from the popular Alfred Hitchcock movie. Next is Marie and Rosetta, a play with music about the early rock ’n’ roll legend Sister Rosetta Tharpe and her unlikely partnership with a young Marie Knight. The holiday season brings the annual tradition of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol.
In the New Year, the Theatre will present — for the first time — August Wilson’s Pulitzer Prize-winning play Joe Turner’s Come and Gone. Set in the 1900s, this drama explores heritage and community as descendants of the formerly enslaved have come North seeking fresh starts. The second Pulitzer Prize-winning play of the season is the new work by Sanaz Toossi, English. This play explores the complexities of language, immigration, identity, belonging, and the experiences of those learning a new language.
For the season closer, the IRT is set to produce the regional premiere of the new hit American musical Come From Away. Taking place in the small town of Gander, Newfoundland, the story follows the heartwarming and poignant journey of 7,000 stranded air passengers after the tragic events of September 11, 2001. This is the third year in a row that the IRT has brought a musical to its stage, and this is the first musical chosen close on the heels of its Broadway success.
