Eastside to See Lots of Construction for 2025

INDIANAPOLIS — Mayor Joe Hogsett joined the Indianapolis Department of Public Works (Indy DPW) and the Indianapolis City-County Council recently to discuss major projects for the 2025 construction season.
This year, the capital infrastructure budget for Indy DPW calls for $268 million in investments into transportation and stormwater projects across Marion County.
This year, Indy’s roads will see $200 million in transportation improvements and $68 million stormwater improvements. Included in the project are 1,300 new or improved ADA-compliant ramps, 15 miles of bike lanes, 734 new or rehabbed sidewalks, 132 lane miles of asphalt street work,  126 lane miles of streets assessed for strip-patching, expansion of trails, and 1,077 trees planted.
Among the initiatives scheduled to break ground in 2025 is the first phase of a project that will transform Madison Avenue.
Indy DPW has received three rounds of funding to help transform Madison Avenue over the next several years. In addition to rehabbing the pavement, the new Interurban Trail will be created parallel to the roadway, offering safe, multi-modal transportation.
The first phase of construction will take place between Pleasant Run Parkway North and Ray Street. It is expected to break ground in June and continue into 2026. The second phase will be between Martin Street and Hanna Avenue and the third phase from Pleasant Run Parkway to Martin Street. Altogether, the three phases represent a $45.2 million investment in city streets.
The east side will see numerous improvements and upgrades of sidewalks and curbs, in addition to ongoing work on East Washington in preparation for the IndyGo Blue Line, and construction of the Pleasant Run Tunnel at Ellenberger Park as the last part of the DigIndy Project.
