Applause!: April 11-17

• The City of Lawrence is hosting a Spring Fest Egg Hunt at Community Park on Saturday, April 19 beginning at 9 a.m. The egg hunts will be divided by age group, and there will be lots of other activities. Please register ahead of time online at indy.recliquecore.com/programs/41762/#division_60433. Lawrence Community Park is located at 5301 N. Franklin Rd.
• There was a significant crowd at the Statehouse April 5 protesting state and federal policies in a peaceful gathering. The next one is scheduled for April 19.
• The beloved Irvington tradition continues at the Benton House Egg-Stravaganza on Saturday, April 19 at 10 a.m. on the grounds of the house, 312 Downey Ave. Kids can hunt for treat filled eggs hidden in the historic gardens The event is free but donations are appreciated. Get there early, because the eggs won’t last long.
• The Old City Hall at 202 Alabama St. is about to get a makeover as a hotel/residential tower/art gallery curated by 21c Museum Hotels. The developer, TWG, was issued a $66 million bond on the vote of the City-County Council. There will be a first floor restaurant, a grand central rotunda and designated office space. The art gallery will feature local artists. The bonds to TWG will be repaid over a 10 year period, and no city revenues will be used to make payments on TWG’s behalf. Work is slated to begin in July 2025 and be completed by July 2028.
• Garfield Park Conservatory is hosting a visitor appreciation day on Sunday, April 13 from 1-5 p.m. and admission is free. Stop by and appreciate the plants, waterfalls, animals and more. The Conservatory is located at 2505 Conservatory Dr. on the southeast side near Raymond and Shelby. Visit garfieldgardensconservatory.org for more information about their events and programs.
• The Town of Cumberland will be hosting a clean-up on Saturday, April 19 from 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Gather at the Town Hall, 11501 E. Washington St. to pick up equipment and tools. Groups will pick up litter at roadside locations around town. Sign up to volunteer by visiting the Web site www.town.cumberland.in.us
• Mark your calender for Tuesday, April 22 when Charlotte Ottinger will be at the Irvington Library, 5625 E. Washington St., at 6 p.m. to discuss her book Madge: The Life and Times of Madge Oberholtzer, the Young Irvington Woman Who Brought Down D.C. Stephenson and the Ku Klux Klan. Admission is free and no registration is necessary.
• Garfield Park Post 88 Legion will host an Easter party for kids 12 and under on Saturday, April 12 from 2-4 p.m. There will be food, games, an Easter egg hunt, and pictures with the Easter Bunny. The Legion is located at 1446 Olive St.
