• Tallen Capital, the company redeveloping Irvington Plaza, sucessfully rezoned the property to Mixed Use, incorporating apartments and retail. On March 19, the Metropolitan Development Commission approved the rezoning, and sent it to the City-County Council’s April 7 meeting for approval. With this petition, the developer can go forward to find tenants and builders for the property.
• Good Shepherd UM Church will host a free showing of the family movie, Overcomer, on the big screen. The viewing will be on April 5 at 1 p.m. It’s a wonderful family film, so bring everyone! The church is located at 2015 S. Arlington Ave.
• IMPD East District is partnering with the American Red Cross to host the 5th annual Breann Leath Memorial Blood Drive on April 18 at 201 N Shadeland Ave from 12 p.m-6 p.m. Breann Leath was killed in the line of duty on April 9th, 2020. • Indiana Landmarks has named Brad Ward as their new President and CEO. He’s a Jasper native with extensive experience in community foundations and preservation.
• Franciscan Health is hosting a men’s bereavement group session for six weeks beginning Tuesday, April 8 from 10:30 a.m.-noon. There will be six consecutive sessions at the Franciscan Hospice House, 8414 Franciscan Lane. The group is open to men grieving the loss of a loved one. The session is free, but registration is required. Call 317-528-2636 to register.
• The Dept. of Public Works is trying to keep up with pothole issues, but they are still popping up (or down). Call the Mayor’s Action Center at 317-327-4622 to report.
• The Indianapolis Black Theatre Company has named a new interim artistic director and appointed two new board members. T.J. Rowley has been named interim artistic director, and the Rev. Dr. Shonda Nicole Gladden and Karen Dace have been named to the board.
• The Pyramid of Enlightenment is holding a psychic fair on Saturday, March 29 and Sunday, March 30 at their place at 8117 E. Washington, Unit B. Admission is $5 and readings are $20 (cash) or $30 per 15 minute readings. Hours are Saturday 11 a.m.-7 p.m. and Sunday 11 a.m.-6 p.m.
• Every Wednesday at from 4:00-6:30 p.m. there is a Fresh Market at the Irving Theatre, 5505 E. Washington. Local producers of meats, eggs, cheeses, and seasonal fruits and vegetables will be set up. Also, you may find baked goods, locally sourced walnuts, plans, and kombucha. The market is accessible through the back door of the theatre, near the parking lot.
