INDIANAPOLIS — Two ongoing road construction projects in the Promise Zone are on pace to move forward as spring weather makes work easier.
The New York and Michigan 2-way street conversions will see rapid advancement in the months ahead. During the colder months, construction work on signals has been underway as weather has permitted. Milling, paving, striping, and other infrastructure work will begin this spring. Weather permitting, this will start as early as mid-March. The cost of the project is $19.7 million.
The City anticipates completing this project in the summer of this year. Please note that there are external factors that may inhibit the project’s current anticipated completion date including, but not limited to, CSX-based railroad work and a CEG project happening near the east end of the project. When construction commences this spring, updates are uploaded weekly to the dedicated project Web page https://www.indy.gov/activity/nymiconversion.
In addition, plans for the near eastside streetscape at 10th and Rural this project are progressing, with utility relocations starting in late summer 2025. The project includes streetscape safety improvements and placemaking efforts along 10th St. from Tecumseh to Rural, and along Rural from 10th to St. Clair. The City anticipates communications regarding Rights-of-Entry to be disseminated to property owners within the next month. The cost of this project is $18.2 million and should be completed in 2027.
