INDIANAPOLIS — The Department of Public Works is encouraging drivers to report potholes directly to them. Now that the snow removal operations are complete (for now), the department is making pothole repairs a priority.
To report a pothole, call the Mayor’s Action Line at 317-327-4622 or visit request.indy.gov/citizen/home and go to “Streets and Alley Repair.”
Potholes form when water soaks into cracks in the pavement, then freezes and thaws, weakening the surrounding pavement. Vehicles driving over the weakened pavement knocks a little out, and more vehicles knock out even more weakened material. With bitter cold temperatures in January and February, snow and rain, along with temperature fluctuations, potholes have been forming all over the city.
