INDIANAPOLIS — Safe Park Indy is asking for donations to help individuals experiencing homelessness and sleeping in their cars this winter. Donations will go to emergency motel vouchers for when it’s too cold for clients to stay in their cars overnight, gas cards so they can afford to run their cars overnight for the heat, blankets, as welll as food and hygiene supplies
The organization provides safe overnight parking, basic amenities and a connection to social services for the unhoused in Indianapolis living in their cars due to homelessness. They are the first safe and so far only safe parking organization in Indiana. They provide a safe, legal space for parking, along with a connection to social services, and access to basic human services, like clean water, food, restrooms and phone charging stations. Locations such as businesses and places of worship provide their parking lots for use during the evening, overnight and early morning hours to host unhoused individuals in their cars. Safe parking is not intended to be a permanent solution, but rather helps people stay safe — and connected to social services — while on the path to finding stable housing.
The Indianapolis location is on the northeast side. For their safety, the specific location is only known to the people accepted into the program.
Consider donating in order to help the community’s most vulnerable. Visit safeparkindy.org for more information and to make a donation.
