INDIANAPOLIS — The Marion County Public Health Department recently celebrated the groundbreaking of a new building on its main campus that will feature an expanded and upgraded public health laboratory. The building will be built on land along E. 38th Street between N. Rural Street and Meadows Drive. The site is located directly east of the health department’s current headquarters at 3838 N. Rural Street.
The 65,000 square foot, two-story building will primarily house a new public health laboratory that will allow for the expansion of its services and capabilities and increase efficiency. Other current health department services will relocate to the new building including Bell Flower Clinic, which is the STD program of the Marion County Public Health Department. The Vital Records office, which provides walk-in services for birth and death certificates will move to this facility, as will walk-in services for immunization records.
Completion is scheduled for the summer of 2026.
