INDIANAPOLIS — The stars aligned around Sun Records in 1956 for what would be an extraordinary night in music history, and Beef & Boards Dinner Theatre brings it all to the stage in the Tony Award Winning musical Million Dollar Quartet, now on stage through Oct. 6.
The electrifying show celebrates a remarkable twist of fate that brought Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins and Elvis Presley together for what would be one of the greatest jam sessions ever. On Dec. 4, 1956, the four legends gathered at the place where they’d launched their careers: Sun Records recording studio in Memphis, Tennessee.
Word soon leaked out of an impromptu jam session. A newspaper reporter who was there wrote, “This quartet could sell a million.” Soon, they were dubbed the “Million Dollar Quartet.” This was their only performance, a cultural flashpoint that caught rock ‘n’ roll at the moment of creation.
That legendary December night shortly before Christmas reveals an irresistible tale of broken promises, secrets, betrayal, and celebrations that is both poignant and funny.
Relive the era with the smash-hit sensation featuring an incredible score of rock ‘n’ roll, gospel, R&B and country hits, performed live onstage by world-class actors and musicians. Showcased hit songs include: “Blue Suede Shoes,” “Fever,” “Walk the Line,” “Sixteen Tons,” “Who Do You Love?,” “Great Balls of Fire,” “Folsom Prison Blues,” “Whole Lotta Shakin’ Goin’ On,” “Hound Dog,” and more.
Million Dollar Quartet is on stage for 48 performances through Oct. 6 in the intimate space of Beef & Boards Dinner Theatre. Tickets range from $55 to $82 and include Chef Larry Stoops’ dinner buffet and select beverages. Million Dollar Quartet is rated PG and children under age 3 are not admitted.
