• Cub Scout Pack 276 invites children ages kindergarten-5th grade to an event to find out what scouting is all about on Thursday, Aug. 29 at 7 p.m. at the Knights of Columbus/Fatima Event Center at 1040 N. Post Rd.
• On Saturday, Sept. 21 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m., the Franklin Township Champions 4H Club will host a recruitment event in the community meeting room of the Franklin Twp. Library, 5550 S. Franklin Rd. • Friends of Indianapolis Dogs Outside (FIDO) is running short of pet food donations, and must pay for food they distribute at a nominal cost to individuals who love their pets but struggle to feed and care for them. The are seeking donations to help out with the costs. Visit their Web site at fidoindy.org to find out about their programs to help our neighbors and, if you can, donate to the cause!
• The Big Red Box project is looking at adding another box in the community to help individuals who are food insecure. The three boxes (30 N. Audubon Circle, 400 S. Ritter, and 2015 S, Arlington) are in constant use, and need donations of non-perishable goods and water. About 4,000 pounds of food go through these boxes, and the need continues to grow. They have started a GoFundMe to help pay for the fourth box. Go to gofundme.com and search for Support the Big Red Box Project to donate.
• Congratulations to the organizers of the Feast of Lanterns that took place on Aug. 24 at Spades Park. The place was packed! Great music, food, and everyone got to hang out with neighbors. This event just keeps getting better and better.
• There will be an opening reception for the 4th Annual Women of Color Art Exhibit at Central Library, 40 E. St. Clair, on Tuesday, Sept. 10 from 5:7:45 p.m. The exhibit will be open to the public during library hours Sept. 3-Oct. 6.
• The BUTTER Fine Arts Fair will be held on Friday, Aug. 30 through Sunday, Sept. 1 at the Stutz Building, 1060 N. Capitol Ave. The festival highlights Black artists and is organized by GANGGANG with sales and proceeds going to support the artists. Tickets are $40 and available online at eventbrite.com.
• The German Klub of Indianapolis is holding its massive Oktoberfest on Thursday, Sept. 5 from 4-10 p.m., Friday, Sept. 6 from 4-11, and Saturday, Sept. 7 from 4-11 at 8602 S. Meridian St. It’s their 50th year, and there will be authentic German food, music, beer, and dancing. Admission is free.
• Great to see the new Emerson Heights sign at 10th and Dequincy, It tells the story of the neighborhood and notes that it is listed on the National Register of Historic Places since 2020.
