INDIANAPOLIS — The Indiana State Fair, now in its 167th year, has a variety of themed days, discounts and free events line up, making it a more affordable family outing. The Indiana State Fair opens Friday, August 2nd and runs through August 18th (closed Mondays).
General admission to the fair is $16 per person, with children under 5 are admitted for free. Parking is $10 per car.
Here are some of this year’s Indiana State Fair greatest value options:
• $2 Tuesdays, presented by the Indiana Secretary of State — $2 gate admission, $2 rides and $2 food options at each food stand on Aug. 6 and Aug. 13.
• Wednesday, August 7 only. First responders, current and former Military, and their families receive FREE admission with valid ID presented at the gate.
• Thursday, August 15 only. AAA cardholders receive FREE admission with a valid AAA membership card presented at the gate. One valid card per person.
Taste your way around the Fair for $5 or less on select items from a variety of vendors. From savory classics to sweet indulgences, there are budget-friendly options cater to every palate. Keep a lookout for the signs.
There are lots of things going on that are free and fun, including livestock shows, the Championship Rodeo, harness racing, agricultural exhibits, and 4H competitions with families from around the state competing for best in show with everything from swine to llamas. Check out the lineup of free concerts for every musical taste, free children’s activities in the MHS Family Fun Park (including a Splash Pad), and immersive lantern sculptures in the Backyard of the fairgrounds.
Admission to the 4H and Expo Halls is free, where adults and children can learn about the great state of Indiana’s agricultural heritage, as well as its future. Don’t miss the DNR building with its fascinating array of fish and animals found around the state, with informative and fun information (and a chance to fish in the pond). Don’t miss the Newfields performances at the Harvest Pavilion with Artscape: Where Imagination Grows, and the exhibits at the Indiana Arts Building.
