INDIANAPOLIS — One of the nation’s biggest cycling weekends for racers, casual cyclists and spectators returns Friday, July 12 from 4:00-9:30 p.m. and Saturday, July 13 at 9 a.m., as the IU Health Momentum Indy hits downtown streets.
During the Mass Ave Crit, about 400 pro and amateur cyclists will compete in one of America’s premiere races, which is also a stop on the American Criterium Cup series. The start/finish line is in the 400 block of Mass Ave near the Chatterbox. It is free to watch, with good spots along Mass Ave. and several venues offering race specials. The race will be held Friday.
On Saturday, July 13, there will be a ride honoring the life of Indy native and Black world champion cyclist Marshall “Major” Taylor. Rides of 14, 30 or 62 miles include a post-ride brunch with live music, rest stops and routes featuring the Major Taylor mural and the Major Taylor Velodrome. The ride begins at 9 a.m. at 240 N. Meridian St. Everyone from new riders to Major Taylor clubs from around the country will participate.
The Indy Crit and Kids Race is family-friendly day of pro and amateur criterium racing surrounded by cycling and fitness activities, food trucks and drinks for all ages. At 12:20 p.m., kids 3-12 can participate in a FREE Kids Race. Register at https://runsignup.com/kids-race. The fun begins at 9:30 a.m. and ends at 5:30 p.m. with kids activities from 11-2. It will take place at University Park, 307 N. Meridian St., and is free to watch and participate in.
