INDIANAPOLIS — Indianapolis Public Schools (IPS) officials recently broke ground on renovations and new facilities at T.C. Howe Middle School. The renovations are a part of their Rebuilding Stronger project.
Howe, which will be a middle school in 2024-25 school year, is one of 23 schools undergoing renovations this year.
The highlights include
• Security upgrades
• New and upgraded athletic facilities for football, track, softball, and baseball.
• New state-of-the-art VOIP phone system and intercom
IPS officials said the renovations are expected to be finished in summer 2024. The school, located at 4900 Julian Ave. on the city’s east side, will continue to operate as normal while construction is happening.
IPS officials said the district will also be opening an IPS Primary Care Clinic for employee health inside T.C. Howe. This is in partnership with Ascension St. Vincent.
Howe High School opened its doors in 1938 as a school for the children of Irvington and surrounding area. It was closed in 1995, then reopened in 2002 as Howe Academy, renamed Howe Community High School. IPS took the school back and will open it as an International Baccalaureate Middle School.
