INDIANAPOLIS — High temperatures are expected for the weekend, June 22 & 23. Residents should exercise caution during outside activities, and take frequent breaks. Heat stroke and heat exhaustion can easily overwhelm people, especially children and the elderly. Heat stroke can cause permanent disability or even death if a person does not seek emergency treatment.
The city encourages individuals who do not have air conditioning at home to escape the heat in cooling centers at parks with community centers. The libraries also function as cooling centers during open hours.
Residents should also check on their vulnerable neighbors. While electricity costs have skyrocketted, it is not safe in this weather to turn off the air conditioning.
