INDIANAPOLIS — State Senator Jean Breaux (D-Indianapolis) passed away on March 20, 2024 after a hard-fought battle with health problems. Sen. Breaux represented Indiana Senate District 34 for 17 years. The district includes the near eastside of Indianapolis including portions of Center, Washington, Lawrence and Warren Townships. No memorial information has been made available as of this writing.
Breaux’s death happened just days before absentee ballots were sent out for the May 7 primary, and her name will remain on the ballot. She is unopposed in the district. A caucus will elect her replacement within a month, and a replacement candidate will be selected by the Democratic Party by July 3 to run in the November election.
