LAWRENCE — An Eagle Scout Court of Honor was held March 9 at St. Lawrence Church, 46th and Shadeland, for three scouts who achieved the highest rank in Scouting. Fewer than 4 percent of all Scouts in the United States reach the Eagle Scout rank.
Those three members of St. Lawrence Scout Troop 427 were: Jacob Fernandez, Zachary Smith and Kaden Wilkins.
Jacob Fernandez, son of Jim and Gerri Fernandez, earned 24 merit badges. For his Eagle Project he constructed 14 Stations of the Cross, which are placed between St. Lawrence School and the Gym.
Zachary Smith, son of Mike and Megan Smith, earned 22 merit badges. His project was building a Prayer Garden at the Love Your Neighbor Center in Beech Grove, which is part of St. Vincent de Paul.
Kaden Wilkins, son of Chris and Jeanette Wilkins, earned 22 merit badges. His project was making new wooden benches outside of the church’s main entrance.
Presentation of the awards was by Scoutmaster Steve St. Peters and Pastor Vinny Gilmore. Letters of commendation from Lawrence Mayor Deborah Whitfield were presented to each. A reception to honor the Eagle Scouts was held following the ceremony
