• Last year, Sidedoor Bagels, was named the best bagel shop outside of New York by Bon Apetit magazine, and everyone discovered what we eastsiders have known for a while. • Better get on the stick and get your tickets to Beastside Brewfest on April 27 from 7:00-10:30 p.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes, 5333 E. Washington St. VIB (Very Important Beast) tickets allow early admission and other goodies for $50, and regular admission is $35 in advance at event.ontaptickets.com and search for Beastside Brewfest 2024. Designated driver tickets are $10. Proceeds go to FIDO and the renovation of the public community playground at Our Lady of Lourdes. This event usually sells out, so make sure you have tickets in hand.
• The Beech Grove Branch of the library will hold a Lineage Research Workshop on Monday, March 18 from 3:00-7:45 p.m. Adults are invited for a free session with representatives from the Samuel Bryan Chapter of the D.A.R. who will provide assistance with Ancestry.com and other online resources. You must register for the program online at indypl.org. The Beech Grove branch is located at 1102 Main St. in Beech Grove.
• If you went to the Heartland Film Festival last year and watched the Oscars on Sunday, you probably noted how many movies you saw in October won awards. Four of the films honored by Heartland won Oscars, including American Fiction, Anatomy of a Fall, and The Holdovers. If you want to be ahead of the movie curve this year, keep your calendar open for the 7th Annual Indy Shorts Festival running July 23-28 and the 33rd Annual Heartland Film Festival Oct. 10-20. • The next Historic Irvington Community Council meeting will be on Tuesday, March 19 at 7 p.m. at Irvington Presbyterian Chuch, 55 Johnson Ave. If you can’t make the meeting, they broadcast it live on their Facebook page.
• Vintage Movie Night at the Garfield Park Arts Center will be March 22 from 8-10 p.m. The movie will be The Enchanted Forest (1945) with Edmund Lowe, the film is one of the earliest films about environmentalism. Tickets are $5 at the door. The GPAC is at 2432 Conservatory Dr.
