• Indianapolis Animal Care Services needs volunteers to help care for cats and dogs in their care. Duties may include helping with laundry and washing dishes. If you have some time to help out, you can apply online at indy.gov/agency/animal-care-services.
• Excitement is definitely building for the total eclipse on April 8. While thousands will likely visit Indianapolis and surrounding towns for events, our friends at the National Weather Service note that cloud cover could be an issue to viewing the eclipse. They show that statistically speaking, there is about a 60% chance of cloud cover on that day in the area.
• The Warren Branch of the Indianapolis Public Library invites school-age children ages 6-12 to engage in a variety of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math) activities on Saturday, March 9 from 10:30-11:30 a.m. There will be coding games, art projects, and much more going on. The Warren Branch is located at 9701 E. 21st St.
• Public Advocates in Community re-Entry (PACE) recently opened their new offices at 1314 N. Meridian. The organization helps currently and previously incarcerated individuals and their families lead productive and responsible lives when re-entering the community. • Garfield Park will host a presentation on the upcoming eclipse on Saturday, March 16 at 3 p.m. Dr. Bruce Hrivnak, Prof. of Astronomy at Valparaiso University will discuss what to expect to see, and how best to see it. Admission is $5 and the program is for those 12 years old and up. The discussion will be held at the Conservatory, located at 2505 Conservatory Dr. on the southeast side. • The Charging Lawrence Electric Vehicle Charging Stations Plan recently won a Hoosier Planning Award from the Indiana Chapter of the American Planning Association.

• According to data collected by the Indianapolis Metropolitan Planning Organization’s Crash Dashboard, there were 2,089 vehicle crashes in Indianapolis in 2023 Jan. 1 through Nov. 30. There were 122 fatal crashes during those 11 months, and 188 crashes involving pedestrians. This is improvement over the 2, 338 vehicle crashes and 133 fatal crashes in 2022.
Daylight Saving Time begins at 2 a.m. on Sunday, March 10. Remember to Spring Forward one hour before you go to bed. Sunday would also be a good day to change your smoke detector batteries and test your alarms.
