• There will be a historical marker dedication ceremony for the jazz great Wes Montgomery on Wednesday, March 6 at 4 p.m. at 10th and Bellafontaine St. Montgomery lived in Indianapolis and was a legend in jazz circles.
• Eagle Creek Park Foundation, Inc. is offering eclipse viewing glasses for the once-in-a-lifetime total eclipse on April 8. • The Scarlet Lane Taproom in Irvington closed on Sunday, Feb. 25 after announcing on social media that it was shuttering their operation after only a year. They had taken over the spot from Black Acre Brewing Company. Citing a difficult business environment, they felt it necessary to consolidate. However, Scarlet Lane in Beech Grove and McCordsville will remain open. We’re sorry to see them go.
• The Indiana Repertory Theatre will present Frida . . . A Self Portrait from March 12-April 7 on the Upperstage. This is a one-person show created by Brazilian writer and performer Vanessa Severo about the life and work of Mexican artist Frida Kahlo. • The March 1 First Friday will be hopping throughout the city. Between the Harrison Center (1505 N. Delaware), and Irvington on East Washington St. holding special events between 6-9 p.m., there should be plenty to do to get you out of the house. Check out local musician and Matt McDonald at Stage Door at 7:30 p.m. for a free short play, Irving’s Crossroads. Stage Door is located at 5635 Bonna Ave.
• There will be an Irvington Oddities Market on Saturday, March 16 from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. at 550 S. Audubon Rd. The indoor market will feature obscure and macabre artists, vendors with curiosities and more. The show is hosted by Black Cat Curio.
• The Big Red Box Project will be adding a new location for their food boxes. Good Shepherd UMC at 2015 S. Arlington Ave. will be the third box that provides free food for those in need. They currently have two boxes available in Irvington, at Irvington UMC on N. Audubon Circle, and in front of Coal Yard Coffee on S. Ritter just north of Brookville Rd. Donations on nonperishable food are always welcome.
