• Central Library is hosting a series of free programs covering nonprofit management topics beginning Saturday, Feb. 24 at 10:30 a.m. The series is free and covers topics such as recruiting volunteers, starting a nonprofit, developing a board of directors, and planning programs. • The destruction of trees at Ellenberger Park on Feb. 19 in order to build sewer connections as part of the combined sewer overflow project has shocked and angered many who use the park regularly. While Citizens Energy warned neighbors, the actual work was more extensive than anyone thought, and now the park looks like a tornado hit it. They have promised to replace the trees after the project is completed, but the loss of mature trees in one of the few beauty spots on the east side is tragic.
• Good Shepherd UMC will be hosting a free First Saturday Matinee on March 2 at 1 p.m. featuring the movie “The Chosen.” The church is located at 2015 S. Arlington Ave. The next one will be April 6.
• It isn’t too early to apply for summer job positions with Indy Parks. They are now hiring for lifeguards, camp counselors, facility attendants and many more positions. • Poets Laureate of Lawrence will feature Lylanne Musselman on Tuesday, Feb. 27 at 7 p.m. at the Theatre at the Fort in Lawernce, 8920 Otis Ave. After the poet’s reading, there will be an open mic.
• Neighbor Power Indy will be held at Martin University, 2186 N. Sherman Dr. on Saturday, March 9 at 9 a.m. This event is designed to bring neighbors together with empowering stories. From March 1-8, the university’s social media and YouTube channel will host inspiring videos from community members before meeting everyone in person. Register online at https://zurl.co/fp9J

• The City of Indianapolis put on a great event with the All-Star weekend, proving once again that Hoosiers know how to handle crowds and throw a party. A round of applause for the public safety folks, organizers, and businesses that made the whole weekend run smoothly.
• The Weekly View has returned newspapers at the office that you can use for moving, puppy training, or for putting under mulch in your garden this spring. We have three boxes outside the office at 195 N. Shortridge where we stock old papers — they are clearly marked. If you need a lot for an animal shelter, please call us at 317-356-2222 to arrange pickup.
