INDIANAPOLIS — IMPD has identified a number of commonalities between the homicide being investigated at 2200 N Mitthofer Rd. on Saturday, Jan. 27 and the homicide being investigated at 2100 N Mitthoefer Rd. on Thursday, Feb. 1. Shannon Lassere was found on Jan. 27 and Marianne Weis was found on Feb. 1. Both victims were white females in their 50’s and both were killed in the same manner.
While there is not evidence at this time that these two incidents are connected, IMPD is taking proactive steps out of an abundance of caution and in the interest of public safety to prevent this type of violence in the community.
Residents should expect to see more uniformed officers patrolling the area, in vehicles and on foot, and detectives will be canvassing the area. In addition to the homicide unit, IMPD will have multiple units working these cases.
IMPD is working with the Indianapolis Marion County Forensic Services Agency to see if any forensic evidence can be identified from the scene. IMPD is looking into different technology in the area and are asking community members to review their cameras to see if they saw anything suspicious or out of the ordinary. The lieutenant over the homicide unit has been tasked with providing direction and ensuring resources are at the detective’s disposal.
IMPD is asking the community to contact detectives if they have information on these victims or know where they were in the hours or days before their death. Residents and business owners in that area are being asked to review their surveillance cameras and report any suspicious behavior to the assigned detective.
IMPD officials are also asking that the community practice good safety habits and remain vigiliant when out in public. Stay aware of your surroundings, avoid walking alone, and call 911 if you witness suspicious behavior.
As of this writing, this year there have been over 20 homicides within the city. In 2023, IMPD reported 216 homicides for the year.
Those with information are asked IMPD’s homicide office directly at 317-327-3475 or e-mail the detective at Ryan.Clark@indy.gov or call Crime Stoppers anonymously at 317-262-TIPS.
