INDIANAPOLIS — Martin University recently announced that Indianapolis northeast side resident Dr. Colette Pierce Burnette has been elected to its Board of Trustee. Burnette has more than two decades of experience in higher education and a career that has spanned engineering, information technology, and public service. She is the President-Emeritus of Huston-Tillotson University, Austin’s oldest institution of higher learning and only Historical Black College and University, making her the first female president of the merged university and the second in the institution’s 140-year history.
Two other trustees also elected to the board are:
• Brigadier General Felica Brokaw, the Indiana National Guard’s first black female general, earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Technology at Martin, and recently received Martin’s Second Annual Distinguished Alumni Award.
• Mr. Haskell D. “Danny” Portee is a U.S. Army veteran who earned several degrees and certifications while serving his country.
