INDIANAPOLIS — In 2023, Indy DPW unveiled Community Powered Infrastructure, a merging of the Indianapolis Neighborhood Infrastructure Partnership (INIP) with the Tactical Urbanism and Art in the Right-of-Way policies.
For years, INIP allowed community-based organizations to collaborate with the City of Indianapolis for public infrastructure projects via a 50-50 cost share. One of the projects was on East 10th St. between Arlington and Emerson, creating temporary barriers that helped calm traffic through the residential area after residents noted dangerous driving along the stretch of road.
Under the new Community Powered Infrastructure program, neighborhood groups wishing to engage in traffic calming through Tactical Urbanism and Art in the Right-of-Way will also be able to apply for matching funds.
Applications for 2024 INIP projects are open now. Applications for 2024 Tactical Urbanism and Art in the Right-of-Way cost-share projects will open in the spring. Visit https://media.graphassets.com/CiTuGOwzQH64v2sF3zNG for application information. Applications must be submitted by Feb. 16.
