• On Tuesday, Jan. 9 at 6:30 p.m., at 1525 N. Ritter, the Community Heights Neighborhood Association will hold a thank-you meeting for volunteers, with a taco dinner included. Dinner starts at 6:30 p.m. and their regular meeting begins at 7 p.m. At the meeting, the results of their traffic calming work on East 10th St., including crash data and the survey, will be discussed.
• Hancock County Arts will open the year with a four-member exhibition with Greg Gearlds, Michelle Kimberlin, Scott Lenon and Qing Shue. There will be a Second Friday Reception on Friday, Jan. 12 from 6-8:30 p.m. at the TwentyNorth Gallery, 21 N. State St. in Greenfield.
• The First Friday arts events will be Friday, Jan. 5 from 6-9 p.m. at the Harrison Center, 1505 Delaware; Circle City Industrial Complex, 1125 Brookside Ave.; Irvington at the Lodge and Hampton & Co. and many other venues; and Fountain Square at the Murphy and other venues.
• The John Boner Neighborhood Center offers monthly financial workshops, Pathways to Your Financial Destination. The next session is on Saturday, Jan. 13 from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. at the JBNC, 2236 E. 10th St. Call 317-633-8210 for more information about this workshop as well as other programs offered by the organization.
• Dance Kaleidoscope will hold an open rehearsal at their headquarters, 1125 Brookside Ave. Suite D5, on Wednesday, Jan. 14 from 12:30-1:30 p.m. This is a free event, and gives you a chance to see the creative process up close.
• Sidedoor Bagel, named one of the best bagels in the United States by Bon Appetit magazine in 2023, is expanding on the east side! They will be taking over the space next to their current location, 1103 E. 10th St. and have been amazingly well in the two years they’ve been open. Last year they made almost 175,000 bagels! They offer bagel sandwiches and schmears as well as a variety of bagels at their shop. They have a Facebook page if you want to check out their hours.
• Congratulations to the SNUG at 210 S. Audubon in Irvington on their grand opening! This unique and traditional Irish “snug” (tiny pub) opened Jan. 2, 2024. It’s right next to an amazing art gallery, and so much more. If you’re in the neighborhood, please check out this hopping little corner of the Irv.
• If you didn’t get a change to see the Jingle Bells exhibit at the Eiteljorg over the holidays, it will remain open until Jan. 15. They will be open from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Mon.-Sat. and noon-5 p.m. on Sun. The Eiteljorg is located at 500 W. Washington St. Visit eiteljorg.org for admission prices and discounts.
