INDIANAPOLIS — The Kurt Vonnegut Museum & Library (KVML), a nonprofit organization with a mission to champion the legacy of writer Kurt Vonnegut and the principles of free expression and common decency, celebrates Kurt Vonnegut’s 101st birthday with VonnegutFest on Saturday, Nov. 11. During this special celebration of all things Vonnegut, the public is invited to visit the museum in downtown Indianapolis for the unveiling of their education exhibit “Core of the American Experience: Kurt Vonnegut and Education,” attend an evening birthday party, and donate to support the ongoing work of upholding Vonnegut’s legacy.
This year, join KVML for the daytime activities and birthday treats from 10 – 6 P.M. with the admission fee of “pay-what-you-can donations.” In the evening, there will be a birthday party for dear ol’ Kurt with live music, comedy, and food. Cost is $25 for the evening party and tickets can be purchased at kvml.org.
Daylight actvities include from noon-3 p.m. Slaughterhouse-Five Reading Marathon Join fellow enthusiasts and immerse yourself in the timeless tale of Billy Pilgrim as we celebrate Vonnegut’s genius during this non-stop reading marathon of Slaughterhouse-Five.
From 3-4 p.m., there will be a live panel on Hoosier War Writers Explore that includes information on Ethridge Knight, Janet Flanner, Ernie Pyle, Vonnegut, and others.
Vonnegut’s Birthday Party begins at 6:30 p.m. and includdes live music by Billy Pilgrim and the Earthlings, a comedy performance by Chicago resident Tim Walkoe, delicious food, and delightful drinks. A specialty birthday cocktail will be offered at the Bokonon Lounge along with KVML’s other signature drinks and select beer, wine, and non-alcoholic beverages.
