• There will be a Pogue’s Run Fall Bike Ride on Sunday, Oct. 29 at 9:45 a.m. Meet at Fletcher Park, 1429 E. Brookside Ave.The ride is 6 miles through Brookside Park up the the Pogue’s Run Art & Nature Park and back. You can dress in costumes if you’d like.
• Storytelling Arts of Indiana will present Spine-Tingling Tales & Tunes on Sunday, Oct. 29 and Monday, Oct. 30 at 7 p.m. both days at the Phoenix Theatre, 705 N. Illinois.. With eight storytellers sharing ghost stories and Indianapolis talent Ben Asaykwee performing songs from his current Athenaeum show, each night offers a unique experience. Tickets are $20 and available online at phoenixtheatre.org
• There will be a pop-up food pantry on Saturday, Oct. 28 from 10 a.m.-noon. at the East Washington Library branch, 2822 E. Washington St. Westminster Neighborhood Services is hosting this, the last pantry of the season. No ID is required. They will have nonperishable goods, dairy and bread for those who need it.
• If you have extra Halloween candy after all the trick-or-treaters are gone, please consider donating it to one of the Big Red food boxes. The boxes at Irvington UMC, 30 N. Audubon Circle and in front of Coal Yard Coffee, 400 S. Ritter are used by families.
• Speaking of which, the Big Red Box Project is teaming up with Kevin Miller of Urban Restoration LLC to help feed 100 families Thanksgiving Dinner (Urban Restoration built the Big Red Box in front of Coal Yard Coffee). To make a donation, call or text Kevin at 317-657-8161. The food drive will be held the day before Thanksgiving in the VFW parking lot in Twin Aire.
• Gaia Works needs nonperishable food donations and grocery store gift cards to help those in need in our community. Please make your donations at the Magick Candle, 6125 E. Washington St. during business hours to help seniors and those with disabilities who cannot afford food on fixed incomes.
• Indianapolis will have a new public trail soon, as ground was broken recently on the Nickel Plate Trail. The Nickel Plate will run from the Monon north of 38th St. to 96th St. and connect with future segments in Fishers and Noblesville.
• IMPD East District will host a Trunk or Treat on Saturday, Oct. 28 from 2-4 p.m. at 3308 N. Mitthoeffer Rd. in the Finish Line parking lot. Wear your best costumes and get free candy!
• Portions of Indiana Avenue have been renamed Madam Walker Memorial Way to celebrate the first Black female millionaire and her legacy in Indianapolis. The Madam Walker Legacy Center is undergoing a major revitalization as they get ready for their 100th Year Anniversary in 2027.
• IFD Station 25 (17 S. Sheridan) is selling their very cool, very Irvington t-shirts at the fire station until the 27th, and will sell the remainder at the Halloween Festival (cash only) for $25. Proceeds go to their station funds. They are selling out fast, so hopefully by the time you read this, there will be some left.
